Comad — Digital Asset Manager

Your media, perfectly organised

Comad gives your team one place to store, find, and share every digital asset — from photographs and video to documents and audio. Rich metadata, full-text search, and IIIF-compliant delivery, all on the Ullav Platform.

Why Comad

Everything you need to manage your digital assets

Built for teams who care about their media — not a generic file store bolted onto something else.

All Asset Types

Store and manage images, videos, audio recordings, PDFs, and raw camera files — all in one place. Preview supported formats directly in the browser without downloading.

Hierarchical Categories

Organise assets with a flexible tree of categories and sub-categories. Drag and drop assets between categories and build the structure that matches your workflow.

Rich Metadata

Tag every asset with captions, keywords, creator, copyright notice, and availability dates. Rich metadata means fast, accurate search across thousands of assets.

Full-Text Search

Find any asset instantly by searching across name, caption, keywords, creator, and description — all at once. No more hunting through folders.

Image Editor

Crop and rotate images directly in the browser. Save edits as a new asset or replace the original — full non-destructive workflow built in.

ZIP Batch Import

Upload an entire archive in one step. Comad expands ZIP files into a matching category tree automatically, so bulk imports are fast and structured.

Standards & Interoperability

Built for the cultural heritage ecosystem

Comad is designed to work within the global standards landscape for cultural institutions — from delivery protocols to metadata schemas.

IIIF-Compliant Delivery

Assets are delivered via the International Image Interoperability Framework (IIIF) — enabling deep zoom, comparison viewers, and integration with external scholarly tools and portals that rely on IIIF endpoints.

Dublin Core Metadata

Comad metadata maps directly to Dublin Core — the standard used by Europeana, national aggregators, and institutional repositories. Export records for aggregator submission without custom transformation work.

Rights Management

Record copyright holder, rights statement, and availability dates for every asset. Public and private access controls ensure the right assets are accessible to the right audiences.

AI-Powered Discovery

The Comad AI basket surfaces contextually relevant assets automatically — helping researchers and content teams find what they need without knowing the exact search terms. Direct integration with Togra and Clann.

Platform Integration

Assets where your team actually works

Comad is the shared asset layer for the entire Ullav Platform — available from within every product your team uses, without tab-switching or URL-copying.

Togra Integration

Browse and insert Comad assets directly from within Togra story notes and the ideas board. Reference images, attach documents, and keep your media linked to the project work that uses it — without leaving Togra.

Clann Integration

Photographs, documents, and audio recordings linked to family tree records live in Comad. Researchers access the full media library from within Clann — one asset, correctly placed in both tools.

Obair Integration

Workflow tasks in Obair can trigger asset operations in Comad — ingest pipelines, approval workflows, and publishing steps — creating end-to-end processes from intake to publication without custom glue code.

Cartlann Integration

Digital surrogates of collection objects — high-resolution scans, photographs, documentation — live in Comad and link to Cartlann object records. Physical collection and digital asset in sync, from one platform.

Questions?

Frequently asked questions

What file types does Comad support?

Comad supports images (JPEG, PNG, WebP, GIF, SVG), video (MP4, MOV, AVI), audio (MP3, WAV, FLAC), documents (PDF, DOCX, XLSX), and RAW camera formats. Custom file type configurations are available for institutional deployments.

How does the IIIF integration work?

Comad exposes a IIIF Image API endpoint for every supported image asset. External tools, viewers, and portals — including Mirador and Universal Viewer — can connect directly to Comad assets via standard IIIF URLs, enabling deep zoom and comparison workflows.

How is Comad integrated with other Ullav products?

Comad is the shared asset layer for the entire Ullav Platform. Togra, Clann, Cartlann, and Obair all access the same Comad library using the shared Ullav authentication token — no separate login, no API key, no integration work required.

Can Comad be deployed on-premises?

Yes. Comad deploys as Docker containers with Helm charts for Kubernetes, with MinIO or any S3-compatible object store for asset storage. On-premises and hybrid deployments are supported for institutions with data sovereignty or network isolation requirements.

Does Comad support Europeana and national aggregator submission?

Yes. Comad metadata maps to Dublin Core, which is the format required by Europeana and most national aggregators. Metadata export for submission does not require custom transformation — the mapping is built in.

How are access controls managed?

Access control is inherited from the Ullav Platform's RBAC layer. Assets can be marked public (accessible without authentication) or restricted to authenticated users. Roles and permissions are managed centrally — there is no separate permission system to configure in Comad.
